Since 3 September 2026, Reddit has opened its AI-driven advertising campaigns, Max Campaigns, to all advertisers; they had been limited to a restricted group since January (Social Media Today). For brands that already manage their social presence and their paid campaigns, the launch adds a channel to weigh up alongside Google and Meta, with figures quoted by Reddit itself: 17% lower cost per acquisition and 27% more conversions.
The facts
- On 3 September 2026, Reddit made Max Campaigns available to all advertisers and added three components: campaign creation and management through its advertising API, an integration with the Smartly platform, and asset groups that allow several product ranges to run within a single campaign, each with its own headlines, visuals, URL and reporting (Social Media Today).
- The beta had opened on 5 January 2026 for traffic and conversion objectives, after an alpha phase with more than 600 advertisers. The headline figures, 17% lower cost per acquisition and 27% more conversions, come from 17 comparative tests run between June and August 2025 against the advertisers' usual campaigns; Brooks Running recorded a cost per click 37% lower over 21 days without any manual intervention (Search Engine Journal).
- Reddit's advertising revenue reached $690 million in the fourth quarter of 2025, up 75% year on year, with the number of active advertisers also up 75% and revenue from SMEs doubling; the full year 2025 closed at $2.1 billion (AdExchanger).
- The rules of the format: a minimum budget of $20 per day or $620 over the lifetime of the campaign, objectives limited to traffic and conversion, the housing, employment and credit categories excluded, an optimisation window fixed at launch, and a recommended 14 days of stability after any change (PPC Land).
How does Reddit turn its communities into an advertising argument?
The mechanism relies on Reddit Community Intelligence, a system that analyses more than 23 billion posts and comments published on the platform to estimate, in real time, the value of each ad impression. Targeting, creative combinations, placements and budget are then adjusted automatically, within limits set by the advertiser: audience suggestions on one side (communities, keywords, interests, custom audiences), constraints on the other (geographic areas, exclusions, brand safety settings). The advertiser no longer configures ad groups; it provides guidance at campaign level and lets the model decide.
Reporting is where Reddit tries to set itself apart from Google Performance Max and Meta Advantage+, both regularly criticised for their opacity. Reddit describes it as open-box reporting: the performance of each headline, visual or video across campaigns, a breakdown by placement and by community, and a feature called Top Audience Personas, which groups the audience reached into named profiles, such as young parents or ambitious home cooks, with the results for each segment. Search Engine Journal sees this as the difference in approach: where Google and Meta optimise towards an outcome while hiding the detail of the audience, Reddit attempts to pair automation with a reading of who responds and why.
The performance figures remain numbers published by Reddit, drawn from 17 tests, with no independent audit at this stage. The case of the British daily The Times, which doubled its conversion rate and gained 26% in click-through rate by adding Max Campaigns to its usual campaigns with automatic targeting, illustrates the potential without validating it at scale (PPC Land). One precedent also weighs on the decision: in April 2024, advertisers accused Meta Advantage+ Shopping of multiplying their costs by up to ten, with some small businesses reporting budgets entirely spent and no revenue in return (eMarketer). Advertising automation is judged on the account's results, campaign by campaign.
AIxH's view
A social media agency in Luxembourg has to judge, channel by channel, whether a community deserves a budget before handing that budget to an automation, Reddit included: the size of the communities relevant to a Luxembourg or cross-border market is checked before the first euro is spent. The same call falls to a digital advertising agency in Luxembourg, whose job is to compare the results with those of your Google Ads and Meta Ads campaigns, using the same cost-per-conversion and lead-quality indicators. Our Social Ads campaigns build in this kind of test with a dedicated budget, a cap set in advance and a reading of the personas supplied by the platform. A first conversation is enough to assess whether Reddit Ads deserves your test budget.
