On 5 October 2026, at Advertising Week New York, TikTok presented Buy Direct, an in-app checkout in one click from the For You feed, Shopping Assistant, a conversational agent that answers on sizing, shipping and stock, and Agentic Leads, an agent that captures and qualifies prospects through conversation. The discovery platform wants to become a transaction platform. The release describes tools that are being built and coming, with no launch date and no list of countries, and no European country is named. What an advertiser can do right now comes down to its own foundations: catalogue, conversion tracking, lead pipeline.

The facts

  • According to TikTok's release, Buy Direct and Shopping Assistant are being built with commerce and payment platforms including Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza and Stripe. Agentic Leads will be available in TikTok direct messages and in lead forms on advertisers' websites. TheDesk noted on 7 October that TikTok announced no launch date for these three products; PPC Land notes the absence of markets, merchant fees and any description of the buyer data passed on.
  • TikTok Ad Network, the former Pangle network of about 400,000 third-party apps, opens to US advertisers from Ads Manager, with brand safety and placement controls; it was already accessible outside the United States. Marketing Dive specifies that Integral Ad Science provides independent measurement (viewability, invalid traffic, brand safety).
  • Search campaigns move under Smart+, which automates keywords and creative while leaving keyword targeting, bidding and budget to the advertiser; Smart+ Creative Selection brings the advertiser's assets, those generated by Symphony, TikTok's creative AI, and creator content into a single approval workflow; GMV Max, the automated campaign tool for TikTok Shop, will factor affiliate commissions, coupons and referral fees into its calculation. The TikTok for Business MCP connector, which lets AI agents plan, launch and manage campaigns, is available on Claude, Kimi, Manus, Perplexity, Replit, Snowflake, Tencent WorkBuddy and the IAB Tech Lab agent registry; TikTok claims a rise of more than 200% in the number of advertisers using it, on internal data from July to September, with no starting figure.

What is announced, what is available: the release read status by status

The release uses the present tense for what exists and the future for what is coming, and the difference matters for an ad account. The agentic commerce tools are being built with partners. Agentic Leads will be available. The app network is introduced to US advertisers. The Smart+ and GMV Max automations are described as extensions of products already in place, with no date or market. The figures all come from TikTok or from work it commissioned: a PF Global report, commissioned by TikTok according to Marketing Dive, puts at 81 billion dollars the GDP generated for US businesses in 2025 and counts 54 million Americans who bought a product after a video; Kantar's Media Reactions 2026 study, cited by TikTok, ranks it first among the platforms where marketers plan to increase their budget in 2027.

For e-commerce: the product feed, native checkout and measurement decide everything

A one-click purchase from the feed and a reliable answer from an assistant about a size or a delivery time rest on the same thing: a clean catalogue, up to date in price, stock and variants. That is the foundation the advertiser already controls, and it is what TikTok's agents will read, like those of the other platforms.

A purchase completed inside the app partly escapes the site's analytics. Before Buy Direct arrives, you need to decide which source is authoritative for revenue, how orders placed in TikTok reach stock management and invoicing, and how they compare with the site's sales. GMV Max, which will factor in commissions, coupons and referral fees, will compute profitability by its own rules: the counter-measure remains real margin, calculated in-house.

For services and B2B: an agent that qualifies leads involves the CRM and consent

Agentic Leads promises to capture, qualify and convert prospects through conversation, in TikTok direct messages and in website forms. Before handing that qualification to an agent, three points need checking: the pipeline to the CRM (which field, which status, how quickly a human takes over), the qualification criteria written down in black and white, and the collection of consent under the GDPR, since the agent collects personal data on the advertiser's behalf.

Dependence is the other point. The more the sale or the contact is concluded inside the app, the more the customer relationship belongs to the platform. First-party data and the ability to recontact the buyer or the prospect outside TikTok remain to be protected, for instance by requiring that every conversation lands in a tool the advertiser owns.

Five useful preparations before these tools reach Europe

The preparations below come from our own practice; TikTok publishes none.

  • Product feed. A clean catalogue, up to date in price and stock, with properly described variants: it conditions every one-click purchase and every answer from an assistant.
  • Measurement. Decide now which source is authoritative for revenue and how an order placed in the app reaches your tools.
  • Leads. Check the pipeline to the CRM, write the qualification criteria and the consent collection before handing qualification to a conversational agent.
  • Dependence. Require that every sale and every conversation lands in a tool you own, to keep the ability to recontact the buyer.
  • Off-app network. Outside the United States, the app network already existed: review placement exclusions and brand safety controls, and compare its performance with the feed's.

In 27 years of campaigns, we have learned to tell an announcement made in New York from a feature visible in a European account. Testing what is available in the account costs little. Reorganising a budget around features with no date amounts to betting on a calendar TikTok has not published.

AIxH's view

TikTok is one of the channels our Social Ads team runs, alongside Meta and LinkedIn, and in coordination with Google Ads. Its new tools depend on foundations the advertiser already controls: catalogue, conversion tracking, lead pipeline. We work on them before each campaign extension on the platform, and we described this week the same control framework for Meta's agentic assistant. If TikTok is part of your 2027 media plan, the state of your product feed and conversion tracking is the first thing to check.
