Marketing adopts AI faster than any other function, at the risk of content that all looks alike

According to the second edition of the Trends of AI study, published on 23 January 2026 by KPMG and the collective Les EnthousIAstes among 356 French decision-makers (KPMG), marketing keeps its place as the leading function for AI adoption among the eight studied. Yet usage remains concentrated on content production, summarising, translation and generation: precisely where the risk of undifferentiated content lies.

Google tests clickable links in ad descriptions, the destination stays the same

Early in August 2026, Search Engine Roundtable and then Search Engine Land documented a Google experiment spotted by PPC consultant Nayan Prakash on LinkedIn: certain words in a Search ad's description become clickable links, like a standard hyperlink. The click, however, leads to the same page as the ad's main headline, with no separate destination.

Google Ads AI Max promised 14% more conversions, the promise falls to 7%

In April 2026, as AI Max moved to general availability, Google announced that its AI feature for Google Ads generates on average 7% additional conversions, a downward revision of the 14% promise displayed during the May 2025 beta (PPC Land). Since 1 September 2026, that same technology has been automatically replacing the settings of many Search campaigns, with no action required from the advertiser.

Three weeks after AI Overviews launched in France, the press takes Google to the Competition Authority

On 11 August 2026, the Alliance de la presse d'information générale (Apig), which represents more than 300 political and general news titles, referred the unilateral rollout of AI Overviews and AI Mode to the French Competition Authority, publishers having been “presented with a fait accompli” in its words (Le Figaro), three weeks after their French launch. The first French showdown over AI answers has begun, and it tells any company monitoring its visibility one simple thing: AI summaries now capture enough value to justify litigation.

Google launched its AI Overviews and its conversational AI Mode in France on 22 July 2026, two months ahead of the 23 September deadline we detailed in our analysis of the French timetable. The shift goes beyond Google: 68% of Google searches in the United States ended without a single click to a website over the first four months of 2026, according to the SparkToro study published in June 2026 on Similarweb data.
